New Civil And Human Rights Group Says It’s Time For A New Generation Of Leaders

They’re calling it A Modern Collaborative for Civil & Human Rights Activism. It is MovementForward made up of religious leaders, attorneys and activists. It is officially launching today at the Atlanta Press Club. They say that they were inspired by Congressman John Lewis who said it’s time for the next generation to step up, and to get in the way of injustice, the way civil rights leaders did in the 1960s.

According to co-founder Rev. Barrett Johnson, a former national officer of Dr. King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), “the continuing struggle for civil rights desperately needs something new, something fresh, something different than most traditional organizations have the capacity to provide.” Johnson added, “many recent ‘leaderless’ protests have been ineffective, profane and in contravention to the spirit of reverence and peace that permeated the Civil Rights Movement.
